Hey There! Welcome to Muddled!
Muddled is an intermediate play-by-post role-playing game featuring wolves and dogs. The word count is set at 150 but members are encouraged to write as much as they want. This RPG avoids the overused plot of packs at war with each other. Instead, it focuses on the struggles of a single wolf pack, the Avia Pack, as well as the dogs, both feral and domesticated, from the nearby human dwellings.
We strive for the realistic simulation of pack life here. The members of this pack must face challenges posed by weather, natural disasters, famine, disease, predators, and the occasional human interaction. A pack is a family, and the interactions between family members will also be key to this role-play. When you join, you will have the opportunity to create a character who is related by blood to other members within the pack. We also have an extended Plot Development board so that you make create mini-plots with other members as well. You may also create a Dispersal wolf (one born in another pack but has left to find a new pack) and then role-play an entrance into the pack. There are also some lands in which rogue wolves may role-play.
Are you ready to join the pack and find your place within? Or perhaps you will choose to roam with the dogs, but can you ignore the call of the wild? If you choose to play a dog, he/she can be a stray roaming in the human lands or wild lands or one that is domesticated but allowed by its owner to roam freely.
The RP Lands
There are three categories of lands for role-play. The first section is for the Avia wolf pack and consists of a forest bordered by a mountain range in the North and a river to the West. In the pack lands, there are two different dens with positive and negative features, and the alphas must decide which den to use for each litter. Once the pups are about eight weeks old, they leave the den and start using "rendezvous sites," such as the meadows, where they can play and explore. There are a few of these in the pack lands. Hunting can occur on any of the boards. Dogs, both feral and domestic, enter here at their own risk.
There is some land to the North and West that has not been claimed by this pack. These lands fall into the Unclaimed Territories. No creature can lay claim to these lands, and both lone wolves and dogs can make a home here. The final category is titled Forbidden Lands, for it is generally a rule that no pack wolf venture into these lands. Humans either occupy these lands, such as the Town Square and Ranch, or are close enough that their presence is felt and feared. However, dogs are a common sight here.
Rank System
The top three ranks are Alpha, Beta, and Gamma and each of these ranks may have up to two wolves, who do not necessarily have to be mates. All other pack wolves fall into the category of Subordinates. No official distinctions shall be made between Subordinates, but some may be more dominant than others and assert themselves more often during role-play, depending on their personalities. Titles such a pup-sitter, healer, warrior, etc., will not be used as rank titles, though the Alphas may choose to assign various tasks to different wolves at any time.
